Denton Butterfly & Entomological Collection
In 1892 Willie and Winsey Denton of Wellesley formed The Denton Brothers, a business for exhibiting and selling their butterfly collection. For the next several decades The Denton Brothers collected hundreds of thousands of butterfly and moth specimens from all over the world, preserved and displayed the specimens with their patented glass boxes, and sold them globally. Today the Wellesley Historical Society has over 2,500 of these entomological specimens in our collection. Each specimen is preserved in its original mounting, patented by the Dentons. Some even have original labels and prices on them.
